Itinerary
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport where you will be met by your Wildmyth Adventures guide. Transfer to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha for overnight stay. Receive a detailed briefing about the Northern Circuit climb, gear checks, and the trek itinerary. This is a chance to rest, acclimate to the lower altitude, and prepare mentally for the days ahead.
After breakfast, transfer to Moir Gate (1,950m), where you will complete park registration and begin the trek. The trail passes through lush tropical rainforest, home to unique flora and bird species. Trekking through thick mossy forests, streams, and giant ferns, the fresh mountain air and sounds of wildlife create a refreshing start to your adventure. Trek approximately 5–6 hours to Simba Camp (2,800m). Evening camp setup, dinner, and overnight.
Trek gradually upwards, leaving the dense rainforest for open heath and moorland landscapes. The trail offers views of the Shira Plateau and unique alpine plants like giant lobelias and groundsels. Along the way, your guides provide insights into the mountain’s geology and ecology. Reach Second Cave Camp (3,750m) after approximately 6–7 hours of trekking. This day helps your body acclimatize while offering dramatic views of the surrounding valleys.
Trek from Second Cave Camp to Third Cave Camp (4,200m). Today’s trek is slightly shorter, allowing extra time for acclimatization. The terrain becomes rocky and alpine, with fewer trees and expansive views of Kilimanjaro’s glaciers. Trekkers will experience breathtaking sunsets and sunrises over the mountain. Evening camp setup, dinner, and overnight.
Today the trail enters the alpine desert zone. Hike past exposed ridges, moraines, and volcanic rock formations. The sky is clear, offering panoramic views of Kibo Peak and the surrounding plains. After 6–7 hours of trekking, reach School Hut Camp (4,750m), a high-altitude base for summit preparation. Early dinner and rest are essential for the night-time ascent.
The summit push begins around midnight. Trek slowly in the cold, using headlamps to navigate switchbacks. Reach Stella Point (5,756m) at sunrise, then continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), Africa’s highest point. Celebrate the accomplishment and capture unforgettable photos. Descend carefully to Mweka Camp (3,100m) for overnight rest.
After breakfast, continue descending through rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you receive your Kilimanjaro Summit Certificate. Transfer back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha. Evening free to relax and celebrate your achievement.
After breakfast, transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward flight or continue with additional Tanzanian adventures. This marks the end of your Northern Circuit Kilimanjaro experience.
