Itinerary
Transfer from Moshi/Arusha to Londorossi Gate for registration and climb briefing. Begin the trek through lush rainforest, spotting monkeys, birds, and exotic plants. Hike approximately 5–6 hours to Mti Mkubwa Camp, set in a tranquil forest clearing. Dinner and overnight at the campsite.
Ascend gradually from the rainforest into moorland with views of Shira Plateau. Giant lobelias and groundsels appear, and the air grows cooler. Trekking time is 5–6 hours, allowing your body to adjust to higher altitudes. Arrival at Shira 1 Camp with panoramic sunset views.
Continue across the Shira Plateau, passing small lava flows and rare flora. The expansive views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks provide incredible photo opportunities. Arrive at Shira 2 Camp, rest, hydrate, and prepare for higher altitude trekking.
Hike gradually to Lava Tower (4,630m) for acclimatization. Enjoy lunch at the tower before descending to Barranco Camp (3,960m) at the base of the Barranco Wall. This strategic “climb high, sleep low” day improves summit success. The Barranco Wall offers spectacular views of glaciers and valleys.
Start the morning with the thrilling Barranco Wall climb, a hands-on scramble that is non-technical but exhilarating. Continue through alpine desert terrain to Karanga Camp (4,035m). This shorter day allows further acclimatization and rest before the summit push.
Trek to Barafu Camp (4,640m), the final camp before the summit. The barren rocky landscape is dramatic and scenic, with views of Mawenzi Peak and the plains below. Prepare gear for the night ascent and enjoy an early dinner.
Begin the summit ascent around midnight. Trek slowly under the stars to Stella Point (5,756m) and continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m). Celebrate your achievement and take photos before descending carefully to Mweka Camp (3,100m) for a well-earned rest and overnight stay.
After breakfast, descend through rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you receive your Kilimanjaro Summit Certificate. Transfer to Moshi or Arusha for onward travel.
